Back to City X: 15 days

School is coming up and soon! I have nine shifts left at the store then I’m back on campus on September 5th. To say “I’m a little excited.” is a tiny understatement. Jenn and I are practically counting down the seconds. I just wish Roomie and Caitlin and Canning were going to be there too- but they won’t get back from their internships until mid-October. Poopoo. I’m looking forward to meeting Lauren (my new roommate) though and getting back to my old routine. Good times.

I’m going shopping on Tuesday so I hope to pick up some of this stuff then.

  • step stool (’cause last year I was getting out of the shower and there was a knock at the door and I thought it was my friend Jenn… but it was actually my friend Canning. Woops… And hey! I had a towel on, don’t be gross.)
  • a new notebook (with coil binding that flips over the top, not to the side- cause journalists write a lot and need to turn pages faster than anybody else. Yeah.)
  • record player (because I’ve recently become a vinyl whore.) Got one! Ordered it online! It’s waiting for me at an electronic shop in City X!
  • speakers (for the aforementioned record player)
  • more plates (’cause I broke a bunch… in anger. Because I’m a badass.)
  • Ethernet cord (’cause my parents stole mine)
  • sticky tack (because tape and tacks aren’t allowed on dorm walls)
  • a little tool kit (because there just aren’t enough tools in my life)
  • a Fat Lil’ Notebook (because I always have one on my desk and go through one every few months)
  • mechanical pencils
  • a butt-load of pens
  • an eyelash curler (because these eyelashes are lovely and deserve some attention
  • hair mousse

This time around, at least I have most of my stuff. And I know not to buy any groceries until I actually get to City X. Because there’s no room in the car otherwise. But here’s some things I really do have to pick up before September.

Yeah.)

  • a little tool kit (because there just aren’t enough tools in my life)
  • a Fat Lil’ Notebook (because I always have one on my desk and go through one every few months)
  • I’ll add more later.

And for something fun, here’s another video from Westwood College.

Vacational.

I took a 3-day trip to City X with Jenn, got back yesterday. It’s a very touristy town so there were lots of things for us to check out. (And by “things”, I mean “pubs” and by “check out”, I mean “drink at”.) Also, Jenn and I discussed moving in together next year (as in, after this school year) and I think we’re going to do it. She’s swell. And I’m turning 22 this year so I think I’m a little old to be living in a dorm again. I’m really looking forward to getting back to class. I need my old routine back.

With that being said, here’s the newest video from our friends at Westwood College.

Eight Things I Miss About College

No Doubt Stand and Deliver

  1. My dorm roommate. She’s not going to be living on campus next year but she plans to live close by. Good. ‘Cause I have a feeling my new roommate isn’t going to just make me chocolate chip brownies whenever I’m feeling blue. Like Roomie did for me this year. (I know, right? Aww.)
  2. Classes. That’s right, I said it. I actually miss learning stuff. Go figure.
  3. My instructors. I saw those guys – the Teddy Bear and the Cactus, as I call them – every day for nearly eight months. I miss the former’s sensitive encouragement and the latter’s sarcastic humor.
  4. My classmates. Well, a couple of them. The ones I talked to regularly, anyway.
  5. My dorm family. This consists of Jenn, Roomie, Caitlin and Canning. You get comfortable with a group of people and then leave them for 4 months. It’s weird.
  6. Drinking. I know, that sounds horrible. But if anything good would happen at college (the end of exams, Christmas, birthdays, Tuesdays), we’d all got out for cuatros margaritas at our favorite downtown restaurant. I miss the laughter that goes along with drinking, not the liquor itself.
  7. City X. Gahd, I miss that town. I miss the music scene. I miss the old buildings. I miss the restaurants. I miss the one-way streets. I miss the culture. I miss the unreasonably high ratio of hipster kids to white gangsters. *le sigh*
  8. Ordering in. As you might guess, Nowhereville doesn’t have an East Side Mario’s. So, I can’t just call them up and have them bring me my favorite meal. Dammit.

Dead Girl Walking!

Posted in City X, Kill Jill, Personal on June 18, 2009 by Jill

Well, I am seriously the most random person ever. But I’m OK with that.

I’ve always wanted to take part in a zombie walk (or “zombie flash mob”, if you prefer). City X had one two years ago with about 20 participants. They held it during the summer. Well, I started a Facebook group last night to see how many people would be interested in doing a zombie walk on Saturday, October 31st. Twenty people have joined the group and it’s only been 24 hours. So, that’s pretty cool.

So, has anyone ever taken part in a zombie walk? I’d love to hear your suggestions, especially since I’ve never taken part in one before- let alone organized one!

Internship Diary: Day XX

(Psst! Don’t miss your chance to win some free, personalized business cards on our new contest! Check it out, yo!!)

Today was my last day. There is no more. Well, until my internship next year, that is.

…And yes. I had some wine tonight… with the woman who owns the B&B I’m staying at. She invited me to dinner and we had some wine and now I’m all warm and sleepy.

Very sleepy, actually. Phew.

Mister Editor Man gave me my end-of-internship review and it was all very positive. I exceeded his expectations, he thinks I’m very talented and the only reason he’s not offering me a summer job is because I don’t have my driver’s license. I told him I completely understood.

Despite working in a newsroom not being my dream job (by a long-shot), I really did learn a lot. And if I’m ever desperate, I can try take that route, even though the number of jobs in the business is painfully limited.

I’m really happy with most of the stories I wrote. Mister Editor Man gave me mostly fluffy people stories, which I really enjoy doing. I pitched a couple story ideas, followed up on them and did them to the best of my ability. And I’m proud of that.

Am I going to miss Town X? Heck, no. (I dig culture. Yo.) Am I looking forward to getting back to City X? Heck, yes. But more than that, I’m pretty excited about going back to the boondocks for a while, as crazy as that sounds. I miss my mom. I miss having free time. I miss being able to blog for hours at a time and actually respond to comments.

I don’t particularly miss working at the convenience store but that’s where I’ll be this summer. Who knows, maybe I’ll write a follow-up to 20 Rules For The Convenience Store. I guess we’ll see.

I definitely plan on working on my new music site, blogging here and there, maybe do some guest blogging if any opportunities come up and (definitely) updating Kill Jill a lot more often than I have been. My baby has been neglected and now I must save it before Family Services comes and takes it away from me.

Wow. I really shouldn’t drink and blog. It’s bad for the Internet.
