Hey, guys! The myUsearch blog (the one I write for, btw) has a new post featuring the best college blogs to subscribe to on the entire interweb. (Well, the ones written in English, anyway.) Based on “consistently good content on a regular basis”, author Elizabeth Kudner categorized eight blogs that she likes best.
(For the record, Kill Jill For College was named “Best Student Experience Blog”. Ha-cha!)
“First of all, I’m a small town girl. I’ve always lived in a very small community- we’re talking a couple hundred people, at the most. (For the record, these people who say they grew up in a small town of 20,000 have no idea what a small town even is.) The city I’m moving to isn’t exactly huge, to say the least, but it’s still a lot bigger than the place I’m living in now. Keep in mind, I may be from a small town but I have never belonged in a small town. Yes, I may be a little fish but I’m in need of a much bigger pond…”
And yay! I got a book in the mail today!: A Girl’s Guide To College by Traci Maynigo.
On a completely unrelated note, I am completely f***ed. Some of you may not know this, but I have an addiction: tattoos. I have three at the moment and they’re all special to me. However, if money were no object, I would have so many more.
Anyway, the city I’m moving to in 20 days has 3 tattoo shops within walking distance of my dorm. And guess what. I just found out about another tattoo shop- and it’s about a five minute walk away.
Dammit.
This sucks because I’ll have to walk by that place all the time and know full well that I can’t afford a new tattoo right now. I have so many ideas for some beautiful tattoos but they cost money and I need every cent I can get at the moment.
Technically, I’m not in college yet… and I’m already feeling the sting of being a broke college student. Awesome.
Well, the first contest here at Kill Jill Goes To College was a bit… anti-climactic. More than one entry would have been nice, but what can ya do. Thus, the winner is Torie Michelle. Her link will be added to the side-menu as soon as I finish this blog entry.
For those of you who were wondering, Torie Michelle’s suggestion for unique storage ideas was: “(1) lofting (2) riser blocks — not cinder blocks, so they should be allowed (3) hanging closet shelves.”

So, it would seem like College X is a bit slack with their deadlines. In February, they said they would update their website calendar by the end of March. It’s still not updated. I didn’t get my acceptance letter until early April. Now, the people living in Residence X were supposed to get a roommate-matching survey and the residence handbook this month. Tomorrow is the last day of the month and it’s a Saturday. So, it’s safe to say that they are yet again behind schedule.
Plus, I didn’t get a receipt for my program confirmation fee or my residence confirmation fee. That’s extremely lame, I have to say.
Besides that, I don’t have much to report. I’m just working and whatnot, trying to save up for a laptop. I wasn’t planning to get a new laptop for college originally but after I thought the idea crossed my mind, I started noticing my computer acting up- making weird noises, being super slow, et cetera. Now, I’m pretty much set on getting a laptop- and a good one, too. My brother the tech geek is setting me up with a pretty good one, so I’m confident. I’m a little unsure about having Windows Vista on it. I’m always reminded of the “Get A Mac” commercials. (Unrelated note: could Justin Long be any cuter?? I don’t think so.)
Anyway, I bought a 50 pack of blank DVDs so I should really start the dreaded backup process pretty soon. Oy, blech, gross and yuck.
I should have a new myUsearch article to post shortly. Cool beans.
