Kill Jill’s Awesome Thing Of The Week: Overheard At College

Posted in Awesome Things on October 24, 2008 by Jill

There are a lot of Facebook groups that have the same goal as this website: to publish and share the stupid things that college students say. Below are a few of my fav’s that I pulled from the site:

  • Girl on cell: “Do you think it’s suspicious that I just bought five bottles of cranberry juice? People drink cranberry juice without vodka all the time…right?”
  • Prof: “It’s not easy to have sex with a male corpse.”
  • Guy on cell: “I had a bunch of girls over at my apartment last night and I’m still gay.”
  • Guy: “I feel really gay right now, no, seriously. Am I gayer than Martha Stewart?”
  • Prof: “I’m as high as a kite today! The guy who hates me just got canned, Obama has the golden ticket for the Democratic primary. Plus, I just dropped a load of LSD.”
  • and many, many more.

Arr! Zefron be not a pirate!!

Posted in In The News, Movies on October 22, 2008 by Jill

Oh, no. God, why must you smite me so?

Reports say that Zac Efron is set to star in the 4th installment of the bajillion dollar franchise Pirates of the Caribbean. The next Pirates film is set for a 2010 release.

This is almost as bad as when I heard they were remaking The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I’m not even sure Johnny Depp’s reprisal of Captain Jack Sparrow can save this film.

Be afraid. Be very, very afraid. Of this disaster of a movie.

I was a little iffy when I heard that they were making another Pirates movie and then Johnny Depp was paid a lot of money to do it. I dunno. I love The Depp, but doesn’t he realize that even this franchise is milked dry? But to put Zac Efron in this film? Oh, wow. Suddenly, pirates are uncool.

Congratulations ninjas. You win.

Homework Heroes: Meet Shmoop!

Posted in Classy!, College Stuff, General, Links, Web on October 22, 2008 by Jill

I got an email from a rep from Shmoop, a website that helps high school and college students do their homework. Pretty sweet, I’d have to say.

What’s Shmoop, you ask?

  • It helps you read. (Didn’t quite understand why Gatsby is Great – maybe he was only just good? – or How the West was Won – what was the score, anyway? Then read Shmoop.)
  • It helps you write. (Jump start your paper. Term paper due. Find your writing groove.)
  • It helps you love. (Literature, that is. And history, writing, and oh so much more as the world turns…)

My new baby!

Posted in City X, College Photos, Kill Jill, Personal, Tra La La on October 22, 2008 by Jill

No, kids. Don’t worry. I don’t have a kid, nor do I plan to have any until I adopt at the age of 35+. I’m talking about my new tattoo. But like a new mom, I plan to show off my new baby. The following photos were taken by my friend Jenn- bow down before her and her beautiful camera.

Maybe when the new addition to my collection is good and healed, I’ll get Jenn to take a few more and I’ll post them on here.

Speaking of Jenn, I have a wonderful announcement to make: I’m going to New York City! We’re heading down by bus on December 28th, spending a couple days in the city, going to Times Square for New Year’s Eve and heading back to City X on January 2nd. I’m so excited!! I’ve never been to NYC, nor did I ever think I would ever get to go there. Come to think of it, I’ve gotten the opportunity to see some amazing places in my life- but NYC was missing from that list, so it’s only right that I get to go there too.

Feel free to post messages of your jealousy. 😉

Even College Candy wants a lil’ Kill Jill!

Posted in Blog News, Links, Web on October 21, 2008 by Jill

I was just notified that Kill Jill Goes To College was just given a shout-out on College Candy, an uber college website with articles on everything that college students love. I’ve been a fan of this website for a while and I usually check it once a day. (Click here to see for yourself!)

Here’s what they had to say about little old moi:

“Kill Jill Goes to College: This girl is just awesome. We wish we knew her in real life. Wait, is that creepy?”

Kinda. But I don’t mind. 🙂

College Photos: Dorm kitchen & sneaky sign

Posted in College Photos, Dorm Room Photos, Kill Jill, Residence X, Roomie, Tra La La on October 18, 2008 by Jill

I guess my roommate had some friends over while I was seeing a band play at a bar. I couldn’t fit the huge-ass pizza box into the photo, but this is what my kitchen counter looked like this morning.

Oh my.

Oh my.

This photo isn’t really related to the above one, but I found it amusing. I took this one the other day while getting photos for Journalism class. I love that the church is “Anglican”– like it’s not really Anglican but they’re pretending it is. I dunno, I found it funny.

Sneaky, sneaky.

Sneaky, sneaky.

I saw a band in a bar. I must be hip.

Yes, it’s true, cool cats. The little country girl from The Midst of Nowhere just saw a band play in a bar for the first time ever in her little sad life. And she loved it.

OK. Done talking in the third person now. ‘Cause even Little Jill thinks knows that’s lame.

Because there was never many cultural outlets or many musicians in the area I grew up in, I just never had the chance to see live bands perform. Ever. We had the high school musical and there were some people who sang at talent shows… and that’s about it. City X, however, is chock-a-block full of pubs where local musicians play. Every single night, something is going on somewhere. And tonight, I finally ventured out and saw a couple people play. And it blew my freaking mind.

Jaclyn’s older brother’s band was playing at this bar above an eatery. She introduced me to some people. One of the guitar players from the band played a few songs solo and then a local chick singer/songwriter played a couple songs. I actually just messaged her over Facebook about an interview for school or for the local arts monthly. Then amps were turned on and Band X got on stage.

To be perfectly blunt, my ears will never be the same but the show was freaking great. Great drums, awesome beats that got you moving and sold rock lyrics. I was very impressed.

I’ve said it before and I’ll gladly say it again. I frigging love this city.

Kill Jill’s Awesome Thing Of The Week: Flight of the Conchords

Posted in Awesome Things, Videos, Web on October 17, 2008 by Jill

I feel dumb for not having discovered this genius New Zealand duo before now. My friend Jaclyn (Hiiii Jaclyn!! :D) from my Journalism class told me to watch some videos. So, I did. And it was love. Below are my 3 fav songs by the wonderfulness that is The Flight of the Conchords.
